Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Capture and enter high quality patient demographic and financial information via telephone and hard copy documentation
- Adapt interview process to the age of the patient/family member
- Enter all information gathered into the system
- Ensure all appropriate paperwork is complete, in accordance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines and requirements
- Comply with established departmental policies for attendance, punctuality, procedures and safety
- Coordinate with insurance verification and pre-certification to ensure appropriate referral information is obtained
- Assist patients with billing issues and questions about insurance coverage and assist unsponsored patients with procedure
changes
- Maintain up to date knowledge of insurance carriers requiring prior authorization for procedures
- Coordinate schedules with other physician appointments, outside referrals and/or therapy
- Review account, communicate insurance benefits and financial liability to the patient, and communicate with Accounting
- Maintain scheduling knowledge and requirements for procedures
- Seek out relevant training or cross training from supervisor
- Participate in the dialogue process with supervisor/manager regarding quality improvement
- Organize and manage time effectively to optimize productivity
- Meet departmental registration and scheduling goals
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and Associates Degree is Preferred
- At least 1-year of experience in scheduling, patient access, registration, billing, cash collections, insurance and/or pre-certification, or related experience in a medical environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience and competency in customer relation skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a stressful environment
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Possess the ability to accept change in a positive manner and implement change with positive results
- Good problem solving skills
- Exemplary keyboarding skills and experience in registration systems and familiarity with personal computers
- Basic knowledge of hospital performed procedures
