Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer
Location: Welcome, NC (15 minutes south of Winston-Salem, NC)
Reports To: Safety & Environment Manager

About the Role:

Our client is seeking a Safety, Health, and Environmental (EHS) Engineer to join their manufacturing facility in Welcome, NC. This exciting role offers the opportunity to work on ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations across the facility. As part of a dynamic and collaborative team, the EHS Engineer will play a crucial role in promoting a strong EHS culture, supporting compliance efforts, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk and enhance sustainability.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of U.S. and North Carolina-specific EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements, and will possess strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. Key Responsibilities:

Compliance and Regulatory Support
  • Ensure the manufacturing facility adheres to all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations at the federal, state (North Carolina), and company levels.
  • Stay up to date with changes in EHS laws and regulations and assist in reviewing their impact on facility operations.
  • Coordinate with relevant authorities for permitting submissions, including air, water, and land jurisdictional requirements.
  • Act as a backup point of contact for government inquiries relating to EHS matters.
Continuous Improvement and Metrics
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate EHS metrics and tracking data trends to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Provide input to management reviews of EHS data, ensuring all metrics align with corporate sustainability goals and EHS best practices.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement/Lean/5S activities to promote a culture of EHS excellence across the site.
Training and Program Development
  • Develop, implement, and lead EHS training programs to ensure employee compliance with both regulatory and corporate EHS initiatives.
  • Identify location-specific safety and environmental needs and assist in the creation of related programs and policies.
  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert for team members, fostering a deep understanding of EHS principles.
Incident Management and Risk Assessments
  • Coordinate and lead incident/accident investigations, conducting root cause analysis and ensuring corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and compliance gaps.
  • Support corrective actions resulting from audits, risk assessments, or loss prevention audits.
EHS Audits and External Compliance
  • Participate in external EHS compliance audits and loss prevention audits, working with cross-functional teams to ensure readiness and adherence to EHS standards.
  • Coordinate and track corrective actions based on audit findings to continuously improve safety, health, and environmental performance.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact
  • Lead initiatives to reduce environmental impact, including minimizing resource consumption and promoting sustainable development practices.
  • Contribute to the overall environmental goals of Schneider Electric, working to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and operations, to integrate EHS considerations into daily activities and decision-making processes.
  • Provide regular updates and communication with senior management on EHS performance, initiatives, and outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Environmental Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety, environmental, or engineering role, with knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations, ISO 14000, and ISO 45001 standards.
Skills & Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, particularly OSHA and EPA.
  • Experience with job safety analysis (JSA), accident investigation, and conducting risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14000 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) standards.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to foster a culture of safety and accountability in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to deliver initiatives on time and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
