Job Description

The Resource is seeking a Non-Destructive Technician for our client, one of the largest integrated and diversified suppliers of railroad and transit products, located in Winston-Salem, NC! This is a permanent, Direct-Hire opportunity that offers a pay rate of $20.00-$25.00 per hour (depending on experience), and has a 2nd shift schedule (3:30pm-11:00pm). The Non-Destructive Technician will act as Metallurgical Technician and is certified to conduct UT inspections. This technician will be responsible for the development and documentation of metallurgical preparation testing, preparing metallographic samples by sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching samples, reading microstructures, hardness testing, tensile testing, and UT inspection of incoming or in-process material. Ideal candidates for this role should have prior experience in machining, knowledgeable with CPS Tools, metallography experience, ability to interpret microstructures, and have prior experience working in heat treat process engineering. Responsibilities:
- Schedule, coordinate, facilitate, and conduct UT inspections on incoming rough material, in-process machined product, or assembly components
- Summarizes UT inspection results in a technical document and communicates to Operations, Manufacturing, Global Purchasing, and Quality Departments; Submit LRS papers for Inspections; Conducts Microstructural analysis; Conducts Sample Cutting; nConducts Mounting and Polishing Samples; Etching Samples; Conducts Hardness Testing; Conducts Tensile Testing; Conducts Dye Pen testing; Conducts MAG inspections; Creates Standard Work for responsible tasks
- Assists in identifying work elements that are high risk (through SFMEA) and works to lower those elements to medium or low risk
- Participate/Facilitate Fast Track DMAIC investigations as needed
- Train and assist in Internal Audits
- Conduct 5S audits and execute to 5S expectations in the work area
- Validate Standard Work Changes
- Notify supervisors and other personnel of nonconforming material and assist in identifying and correcting these problems through quality stand-downs and/or material review boards
- Direct and train other employees.

Qualifications: 
- Site specific skill progression and qualifications may be different, reference facility HR
- Skill Level I – 1-3 years of experience or BS/BA or Technical Degree
- Skill Level II – 3-5 years of experience or Specific Experience or Technical Certifications
- UT Inspection Certified – Level 2
- Material analysis experience
- Sample cutting/machine shop operations experience
- Print Reading, Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Power Point, Word)
- Knowledgeable with CPS Tools: C.I. Card Process, 5S, Stop-to-Fix, Andon System
- Metallography experience, ability to interpret microstructures
- Prior experience working in a heat treat process engineering position
- Prior experience working in a machining, heat treat processing, metallurgy and/or materials systems position
- Rigging certification
- Experience with Wonderware and HTIS heat treat software
- Experience performing Factory Mutual Compliance Testing on heat treat equipment, Shot Peen Experience
- Acoustic Transducer Crack Detection Experience; PLC Troubleshooting experience
- Worked with Fanuc Robots
- Knowledge of ISO/TS/CQMS Standards.
