Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Prepress Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will create digital artwork and layouts based on customer specifications, ensuring high-quality files for digital proofs, films, and plates. You will be responsible for working with various graphic programs to produce complex, multi-color jobs, and you will play an integral part in maintaining the accuracy of job files throughout the production process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safe Work Environment: Adhere to safety guidelines, ensuring a safe, accident-free workplace (5S/6S standards).
  • Artwork Creation: Create digital artwork and layouts to customer specifications, meeting company standards for high-quality output.
  • Graphic Programs: Operate Mac and PC computers with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro) to produce and modify graphics and layouts for complex jobs.
  • Plate Types: Develop project layouts for various plate types, including Web, Sheetfed, Die cutting, Flexo, Intaglio, and Dry offset.
  • Film & CTP Image-Setters: Operate and maintain film and CTP image-setters, ensuring smooth production of accurate plates.
  • Proofing & Plate Production: Produce high-quality laser and inkjet proofs and maintain precision in plate creation and inspection.
  • File Management: Maintain organized records of file versions in accordance with established naming conventions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Cross-departmental Support: Assist with other in-house graphic needs and collaborate with Customer Service on job jackets and related documentation.
  • CTP Plate-Making Support: Assist in the plate-making process by inspecting and examining plates to ensure top quality.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other tasks assigned by the department manager.
Qualifications:
  • Educational Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) with 0-1 year of relevant experience, or
    • Associate’s degree (A.A./A.A.S.) with 2-4 years of experience, or
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency with Adobe CS6/CC (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro) and other Mac-based graphic applications.
    • Familiarity with computer-to-plate (CTP) workflows and file management systems.
    • Experience with workflow software such as Fuji XMF, Screen Trueflow, AGFA Apogee, or similar applications.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on precision in file creation and output.
    • Strong creative and design abilities.
    • Excellent spelling and grammar skills.
Physical Demands:
  • The role requires occasional lifting and/or moving of materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess excellent visual acuity and color recognition to ensure the quality of output.
  • Ability to handle and manipulate materials such as plates, paper, and other printing materials.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and operate computers and machinery.
