We are actively seeking an experienced Team Leader for Global Research & Development to join our client, a Medical Device Company located in Winston-Salem! This permanent, Direct Hire opportunity offers a competitive salary range based on skill level, and great benefits including a relocation and/or housing allowance package. The team leader will be responsible for building the new Research & Development (R&D) team within the organization, that will be based around a more minimally invasive gastrointestinal (GI) surgery. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the medical device industry, and a degree in Engineering or Science is strongly preferred. Responsibilities:
- Manage the schedule, costs/budget and resources for assigned projects
- Actively engage with Key Opinion Leaders, physicians and product managers to ensure user needs are appropriately addressed
- Technical responsibility for all R&D activities assigned
- Identify new vendors and strategic partners for product development and component/subassembly supply
- Maintain and improve high standard of medical device engineering
- Manage the development of the IP portfolio for your area of responsibility
- Ensure team/teams deliver quality designs in a timely manner
- Mentor, coach and develop direct reports to attain best performance
- Work with other R&D manager, Global R&D Program Managers and Global Directors to ensure sharing of R&D best practice
- Foster relationships and collaborate with other functional stakeholders required for the successful completion of development projects
- Foster and maintain a workplace culture respectful and supportive of individual differences
- Ensure effective communication of project progress and risk to all relevant stakeholders
- Work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the global organization
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and maintain company quality & quantity standards
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance

Requirements:
- Bachelor s degree, Engineering or Science discipline is strongly preferred
- At least 7-years of prior experience in medical device development
- Demonstrated ability to develop products from concepts
- Proven project management skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and receptive in fast paced situations
- Strong technical writer
- Good mechanical design, materials aptitude and understanding of engineering fundamentals with extensive medical device materials knowledge
- Must have good understanding of IP process
- Good working knowledge of medical device quality & regulatory systems and medical device directives (ISO13485 and FDA CFR 820)
